Purpose: To give back to our broader community both through direct programs and in collaboration with other organizations. Pilot programs under development include:
ALI Program: Inspiring high school girls to explore advocacy, leadership and innovation through shadow programs with courts, the USPTO, Congress and technology companies as well as through collaboration with organizations such as Girls Who Code. SF pilot led by Shashi Deb, Texas pilot led by Michele Connors, Tracey Davies and Jennifer Wuamett, DC pilot led by Rita Lari Jochum and Aerica Banks.
Startup 101: Bootcamp-style legal basics for entrepreneur-focused businesses that advance women and other underrepresented communities. Led by Kathi Cover.
Purpose: To advance and empower women in the first 15 years of their careers through events designed to provide an opportunity to hone skills needed to succeed as careers progress.
Initiatives include the annual Next Gen Summit, Mock Exercises and Next Gen Lawyers, a collaboration between ChIPs, the Federal Judicial Center, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, members of the judiciary, corporate counsel and law firm counsel to provide speaking roles and stand-up courtroom opportunities for junior lawyers.
Purpose: To increase diversity and inclusion (and therefore business effectiveness) in the workplace by encouraging best practices and recognizing organizations that achieve ambitious diversity goals. Initiatives in progress include developing criteria for an Honor Roll program to recognize firms that commit to and meet diversity and inclusion goals, including suggested practices and tools to assist firms in achieving those goals and suggested policies for corporate leaders to implement to increase diversity among their service providers.
