On Monday, February 13, 2017, the East Coast Chapter of ChIPs, along with 21st Century Fox and NTCA, held a free private screening of the film “Hidden Figures” in Washington, DC.

A big thank you to East Coast ChIPs Chapter Co-chairs, Karin Norton and Kathi Cover for organizing the event.

“When Karin told me her idea of organizing a private screening of Hidden Figures, I thought the subject matter was a perfect match with the ChIPs mission,” said Kathi Cover.

Approximately 75 ChIPsters attended the event, which included a networking reception. Hon. Michelle Lee, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO, and ChIPs Co-founder and Board Director Emeritus, provided some introductory remarks on women in STEM before the film began.

How did the audience react to the film? “Everyone loved it,” said Karin Norton. “At the end of the film, no one moved from their seats – the entire audience watched the credits! Even as the lights came up, no one moved. In conversation after the film, we talked about perspective – how far we still have to go, but just how far we have come.”

ChIPs would like to give special thanks to Jocelyn Coffey at 21st Century Fox and Kristin Buch at NTCA for making this event possible.
