SAN FRANCISCO (August 30, 2022) – Nominations are now open for ChIPs General Counsel Boot Camp 2023, an innovative 12-month course for in-house attorneys who want to advance to the position of general counsel. The deadline is September 30.

Only a limited number of in-house counsel will be accepted in the program, which begins October 28 with an in-person introductory session following the ChIPs Global Summit 2022 in San Francisco. To nominate an attorney from your organization, please email Monica Phillips of ChIPs or apply online.

ChIPs General Counsel Bootcamp is made possible by a grant from ChIPs Board member Dorian Daley, executive vice president and general counsel of Oracle.

Daley said, “There is no single path to the general counsel seat. The ChIPs General Counsel Bootcamp is designed to foster the development and enhancement of the necessary skillset for the position, and will focus on personal and professional development, leadership and operations, and the community, collaboration and clarity needed to advance to the highest level of leadership.”

Immersive and interactive

ChIPs General Counsel Boot Camp is a comprehensive yearlong executive learning program that will give in-house attorneys the skills and confidence to become general counsel and chief legal officer.

The program includes two in-person events and 21 hours of live and on-demand virtual learning. It focuses on core competencies, skill building, leadership training, coaching and peer support.

“ChIPs General Counsel Boot Camp is a learning community, offering insights from senior leaders and experts, mentoring from experienced general counsels, and networking with fellow industry leaders,” said program designer Monica Phillips, ChIPs director of learning, content and DEI.

“Today’s general counsel has to be more than a good lawyer,” said ChIPs Executive Director Joan Toth. “They must understand the current legal and regulatory landscape and be strategic leaders within their organization. Our Boot Camp is designed to prepare a select number of senior in-house counsel for this challenge. It’s designed to increase gender diversity at the highest levels of corporate law, and I want to thank Dorian Daley and the other industry leaders who are supporting this effort.”
