ChIPs Women in Law Roundup

ChIPs Celebrates Three Historic Nominations

Congratulations to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her confirmation as the 116th Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and the first Black woman to serve on the bench. We are thrilled to witness this historic confirmation and this step towards true representation in the highest court.

Watching the first Black women ever to be confirmed to the high court gives us a renewed sense of excitement and opportunity for all women to rise up to the highest levels of leadership.

In the same week, former ChIPs Advisory Board member, Winston & Strawn Partner, and Presidential Nominee Kathi Vidal was confirmed by the United States Senate as Undersecretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and as Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Kathi will lead the USPTO’s 13,000+ employees and its nearly $4 billion budget. She will also serve as the principal advisor to the President of the United States and the administration, through the Secretary of Commerce, on all intellectual property policy matters.

The Software Alliance announced that its President and CEO, Victoria Espinel, ChIPs Board Director, has been appointed to the National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee (NAIAC). As outlined in the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act of 2020, the NAIAC will advise the President on enhancing US competitiveness and leadership in artificial intelligence (AI).
