ChIPs to Induct Mary Cranston in Hall of Fame

Will Be Honored at October 26 Gala in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (July 11, 2022) – ChIPs, the international organization of women in tech, law, intellectual property and policy, will induct Mary B. Cranston into its Hall of Fame. The Chair Emeritus of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP will be honored at the ChIPs Hall of Fame dinner October 26. The dinner will be held in conjunction with the ChIPs NextGen Summit and ChIPs Global Summit, October 26-28 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.

The past honorees are women I deeply admire who have made extraordinary contributions to our profession and society, and I am humbled to stand beside them.”

Previous Hall of Fame inductees include Nina Totenberg, Ursula Burns, Jamie Gorelick, U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono, the Hon. Michelle K. Lee and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The ChIPs Hall of Fame was established in 2013 to honor leaders who “inspire the next generation, have made significant contributions to law, technology and policy, and who have shown a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of women.”

Trailblazer and leader

Mary Cranston is Chair Emeritus of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. She was elected to three successive terms as the Chair and CEO of the Global 100 law firm, which has 2,000 employees in 16 offices worldwide.

She is currently a member of the boards of VISA, Chemours, TPG Capital, and AAA Insurance. She has also served on the boards of McAfee, Myokardia, Juniper Networks, International Rectifier, Exponent, and Graftech International. In her various boards, she has been Lead Director, Audit Chair, Compensation Chair and Nominating and Governance Chair.

Ms. Cranston served as a Trustee of Stanford University from 2000 to 2010.  She has also been President of the Stanford Alumni Association, Chair of the Board of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, and Chair of the Stanford Law School Board of Visitors.

She has served as a Director of the Commonwealth Club of California, and as the Chair of the Club from 2006 to 2009. She has been a Director of Catalyst, a leading global think tank on women in business, since 2006.

Ms. Cranston received the Margaret Brent Award, the American Bar Association’s highest award for lifetime achievement by a woman lawyer. She has also been recognized by the San Francisco Business Times, the National Law Journal, and the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Ms. Cranston has a JD from Stanford Law School, an MA in Educational Psychology from UCLA, and a BA in Political Science from Stanford University.
