Manita Rawat, Partner - Morgan, Lewis and Bockius LLP

Manita Rawat, a registered patent attorney with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), maintains a thriving intellectual property (IP) practice that includes serving as lead outside patent counsel to Fortune 100 companies in Silicon Valley. She primarily supports large technology companies with managing their domestic and foreign patent portfolios, which includes determining patentability and drafting and prosecuting patent applications to allowance. Manita also has experience with USPTO post-grant proceedings, including inter partes review and reexamination. Manita has a strong technical background in applied mathematics with a concentration in computer science, aerospace engineering, and statistical analysis, and she also has a strong technical background in biochemistry. Working primarily with software technologies, including various online platforms, mobile applications, artificial intelligence, and machine learning models, Manita has developed a systematic approach to handling issues with the USPTO that are unique to computer-related technologies, such as subject matter eligibility, to enable allowance in an efficient and cost-effective manner. In addition, Manita is a member of the firm's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force. Manita also has experience in supporting IP issues related to corporate deals, such as mergers and acquisitions and investment funding, including the review of various patent and trademark portfolios, licensing agreements, IP-related lawsuits, and freedom to operate analysis. She also assists clients in patent licensing and transactional matters, including structuring, negotiating, and drafting agreements. She also provides technical support on patent litigation matters at various stages of a case, including determining infringement and noninfringement positions, as well as determining invalidity of issued patents. Manita has experience with claim construction, including drafting briefs and facilitating oral arguments at hearings, and has drafted and argued motions related to invalidity. Before joining Morgan Lewis, Manita served as managing partner of another global law firm’s Silicon Valley office.

Regina Thomas, Lead Counsel for Copyright, Trademark, and Media Law - Yahoo Inc.

Regina serves as associate general counsel and head of copyright, trademark, and media law for Yahoo, a global media and tech company with offerings from finance, news, and sports to gaming, advertising, and search. Regina advises all Yahoo properties on intellectual property and media law matters and provides newsroom support to Yahoo News, TechCrunch, and Engadget journalists. Regina joined (then) AOL in 2004 from Morgan Lewis in DC, where she focused on trademark and copyright advising, prosecution, and licensing. She worked as a trademark paralegal before law school at two IP boutique firms. Regina serves as chair of the board of directors of the Media Law Resource Center (MLRC), a non-profit dedicated to speech and press freedoms. She has served on the MLRC trademark and copyright law committee, and as a director and division chair for the ABA Forum on Communications Law. Regina is a frequent speaker on digital media topics.

Susan Morrison, Principal - Fish & Richardson P.C.

Susan Morrison is a patent trial lawyer and litigator with more than 15 years of experience and the managing principal of Fish & Richardson's Delaware office. She has tried cases in venues around the U.S., including the District of Delaware, the District of New Jersey, the Eastern District of Texas, and the U.S. International Trade Commission. Susan has extensive experience in Hatch-Waxman and life sciences litigation, representing branded pharmaceutical and agricultural chemistry clients on technologies ranging from topical ophthalmic medications for treating glaucoma to a blockbuster treatment for Hepatitis C to pesticides and herbicides for controlling unwanted vegetation. She also has significant experience in medical device litigation, representing companies regarding technologies ranging from stents to control abdominal aortic aneurysms to CPAP devices.

Cary Miller, VP and Head of IP - REGENXBIO

Cary Miller is Vice President and Head of IP at REGENXBIO Inc., a clinical-stage gene therapy company based in Rockville, Maryland. Cary directs REGENXBIO’s global patent strategy, including patent prosecution, patent office challenges and IP litigation. Prior to joining REGENXBIO, she was a partner at Jones Day where she counseled clients on patent strategies for biotech and pharmaceutical therapeutics, including prosecution, litigation and appeals, in a variety of life science disciplines.

She plays a pivotal role as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, challenging assumptions and encouraging alternative courses of action to align with long-term organizational goals. In prior roles, Tanya served as intellectual property and licensing counsel for both the wine industry as well as a large national toy manufacturer and distributor, managing and optimizing global IP portfolios through clearance, prosecution, protection, and monetization. Tanya is a founding member and former president of the Thai American Bar Association, a member of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and a Pro Bono Committee volunteer with the Association of Corporate Counsel of Southern California.
