Philadelphia Chapter Event: Breast Cancer Awareness

On October 23, 2019, our Philadelphia ChIPsters gathered to raise awareness of breast cancer and enjoy pink treats and inspiring words.

We had a great turnout for the program and judging from the evaluations received, it was a resounding success.

The event, held at the Philadelphia office of BakerHostetler, paid tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a fireside chat that featured Dr. Marisa Weiss, Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Breastcancer.org – the world’s No. 1 online and mobile resource for breast health and breast cancer information and support.

Long before becoming a breast cancer survivor herself, Dr. Weiss explained that she created Breastcancer.org in 2000 to ensure that patients had immediate access to expert medical information and dynamic peer support at any hour of the day or night. Dr. Weiss, along with BakerHostetler Partners Nancy Frandsen and Stephanie Lodise, also discussed the specific intellectual property matters involved in creating the extensive online resource and its related and ongoing programming.

“It has been a privilege to aid Dr. Weiss on her mission to enhance and save women’s lives,” said Frandsen. She has worked with Weiss for more than 20 years, securing and protecting many memorable trademarks, including “Breastcancer.org” and the “Think Pink, Live Green” logo, a reference to helping women reduce their environmental risks of breast cancer.

The guests also learned about Weiss’ “Taking Care of Your ‘Girls’” educational program, directed to the next generation of women, and attendees were then invited to take home a copy of Weiss’ book, by the same name. |

Thanks to ChIPsters, Alaina Lakawicz, Laura Gordon and Savannah Merceus from Baker Hostetler for helping to make the program such a great success.
