    MEET THE SPEAKERS 

    Julie Shepard 

    Julie Shepard litigates in trial courts nationwide.  She has defended her clients’ rights in trade secrets, copyright, trademark, patent, piracy, antitrust, unfair competition, fraud, and related business tort cases.  She also helps her clients craft solutions outside of litigation.  Ms. Shepard is leading the charge on ground-breaking technology and intellectual property matters in the rapidly evolving area of content distribution and consumption.  Her practice includes a focus on developing strategies involving new technologies, advanced media, and content licensing.  In 2016, Ms. Shepard was part of the trial team that secured a $940 million jury verdict and permanent injunction in a significant trade secret case, one of the largest trade secret verdicts in US history, for which Ms. Shepard and the team received a California Lawyer “Attorney of the Year” award.  Among other acknowledgements, The Recorder recognized Ms. Shepard for consecutive years in its “Women Leaders in Tech Law” lists for her work in the technology sector, and the Daily Journal also named her one of California’s “Top Women Lawyers.”   Ms. Shepard is a longstanding member of Jenner & Block’s Diversity Equity & Inclusion and Associate Review Committees. She has been presenting on the importance of sponsors to career advancement since 2019.

    Carissa Coze 

    Carissa Coze is chair of Jenner & Block’s Sports and Gaming Practice and a member of the Content, Media, and Entertainment Practice. She is an experienced dealmaker who focuses on M&A, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships in the sports, gaming, esports, mediatech, and entertainment industries.  Ms. Coze provides sophisticated and strategic advice on complex, game-changing transactions that help content providers, technology companies, and brand-holders establish new ways to develop and exploit their intellectual property and engage in new business in a rapidly evolving content, media, and entertainment ecosystem. Variety has featured Ms. Coze in its “Dealmakers Impact Report,” The National Law Journal has recognized her as a Trailblazer for Sports and Entertainment, and The Recorder has named her a “Woman Leader in Tech Law.” The Daily Journal also recognized her with its “Top 100 Lawyers in California” and “Attorney of the Year” awards. Ms. Coze is actively involved in the Los Angeles office’s Women’s Forum and ESG Committee.
